        Serve In The Community

Ebenezer serves one large, community-style meal for our unhoused neighbors and community members on behalf of Micah Ministries and their Meals Outreach program. Ebenezer volunteers will meet at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church in downtown Fredericksburg to prepare the meal in their kitchen and serve neighbors in their gathering room. Additionally, we may deliver a limited number of meals to those clients staying at a local motel or we may be asked to serve outdoors. For more information, please contact Amy Miller using the form below.

What: A small volunteer team preps, cooks, serves, and cleans up a healthy dinner for approximately 50 – 100 guests, mostly Micah Ministries’ clients.

Prep, Cook and Serve: No special skills are needed, and there are no culinary requirements! All supplies are brought by the program leaders; volunteers only need to show up ready to work. We will prepare the meal in the Fredericksburg UMC kitchen, box it up ‘to go’ style and serve guests. We have jobs for all skill and comfort levels.

Age Restriction: Most of our volunteers are over 10 years old. However, if you feel your younger child is capable of helping prepare a meal at home, they are welcome here!

Where: Fredericksburg United Methodist Church (308 Hanover St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401 – use Princess Anne Street kitchen entrance)

Angel Tree is a seasonal opportunity to assist under-resourced families during the holidays. Seniors and families, identified by Social Services and local schools, are asked to create gift wish lists. Members of our congregation sign up to purchase, wrap, and return the gifts by mid-December. There is also an opportunity to sponsor a food box for each family or senior. Volunteer shoppers are needed to purchase the items for the food boxes.

Angel Tree is one of Ebenezer’s most popular outreach ministries. Because of your generosity, we continue to increase the number of families we serve each year.

        Here’s how you can help:

        Purchase a Gift

Sign up to purchase gifts for children and seniors from our online SignUp Genius wish list. Wrapped gifts are due back to church on Sunday, December 10. To sign up to donate, please use the button below.

        Sponsor a Gift

No time to shop? You may sponsor a gift by donating any amount you choose, and our volunteers will do the shopping for you!

        Sponsor a Family Food Box

Angel Tree families and seniors will each receive a food box, including the makings for a holiday dinner, but you won’t have to do the shopping! Simply sponsor a family with a one-week ($30) or two-week ($60) food box. Our volunteer elves will do the rest! With your monetary donations for the food boxes, we are able to provide many more meals than in the past by purchasing and shopping in bulk.

Volunteer to Help Shop, Assemble & Distribute Gifts and Food Boxes

We will need many helping hands to shop for food, sort and assemble food boxes, receive gifts as they are brought to church, and distribute gifts to representatives from local schools and social service agencies. Please sign up to volunteer using the buttons below.

For more information, please contact Director of Missions and Outreach Amy Miller using the form below.

Winter is coming, and we need extra help this year!

Are you feeling the chill in the air and wondering about care for our unhoused neighbors this winter?
Micah’s Cold Weather Shelter program runs mid-November through mid-March. Micah makes a daily open or closed decision for the overnight shelter, based on temperature and weather conditions each day. Last winter was the first season that Micah hosted two separate shelter sites: One for men and one for women. Upon opening the women’s site, we found that this met a real need in our community, and are proud to offer the same thing again this season.
Volunteers are welcome to donate their time to either shelter, regardless of their gender.
        Locations:
Men’s Shelter, 750 Kings Highway, please enter through the ramp on the back of the building. There is plenty of parking in the CSB lot.

Ready for an experience of a lifetime? Travel with a Helping Children Worldwide mission team to Bo, Sierra Leone. You can work alongside the staff of Mercy Hospital or the Child Reintegration Centre and make a difference in the lives of children in poverty. There are different types of trips, based on your skills, talents, and interests. These trips are much more than a journey to a foreign land. They are a transforming, life-inspiring experience. You may sign up to give of yourself on an Impact team, but you may find that you will get more than you give.

Ebenezer sent a mission team on a two week-long mission trips to Costa Rica in conjunction with Rice and Beans Ministries in July 2024. Support activities  included church & school repair/construction, day camps, Bible school, and food distribution to local villages. Please contact Director of Missions and Outreach Amy Miller for more information on upcoming trips or visit the Rice and Beans Ministries or other ways you could support this ministry.
